Ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM roofing) is the most durable roofing solution that is mostly used in low-slope buildings across the world.
Its two main ingredients, propylene and ethylene are derived from natural gas and oil. EPDM is available in black and white color and in a variety of widths and thicknesses. EPDM can be either mechanically attached and sealed with liquid adhesives or even installed fully adhered.

What is EPDM Roofing?
Propylene, ethylene and a small amount of diene monomer are the ingredients of EPDM roofing membrane. These ingredients are synthesized to make a product that is resistant to UV lights and different weather conditions but also has an outstanding low-temperature flexibility.
EPDM can be found in black and white color, with a few minor differences in their performance. Black EPDM has a smooth surface and doesn’t contain any surface granules. White EPDM has several additional benefits – the color is highly reflective, so it can cut the energy costs in half. In a short period of time, the decision was supported by many pieces of evidence on improving the quality and actually extending the lifespan of the roofing system.
The calendaring process was used for hundreds of years. But over time, this old technique of heat-softening rubber polymer and then forcing it through rollers to make an EPDM membrane wasn’t efficient anymore. It was a good solution for many years, but over time, the limitations have become evident, so it was the right time to try something new.
